Laser 558 = an offshore pirate radio station that came on the air from off the coast of south-east England playing a format of Hot Hits. Within months this station revolutionized British radio in much the same way that offshore pirate radio stations of the 1960s had done many years before. Most of the top pop musicians of the 1980s were heard on Laser 558.
